The Balvenie unveils Daniel Arsham collaboration for limited-edition whisky collection
The Balvenie has teamed up with artist Daniel Arsham for a major new creative partnership celebrating the craft behind its single malt whisky.
The collaboration, titled The Dawn of Our Spirit, will see Arsham work alongside The Balvenie malt master Kelsey McKechnie on an artistic programme designed to mark the launch of a forthcoming limited-edition collection.
The whisky brand said the partnership will explore The Balvenie’s Five Rare Crafts, which cover its barley, cooperage, malting floor, copper stills and the role of the malt master.
The programme will include a series of sensorial and immersive experiences across Asia and the United States, with the collection set to include an ultra-rare release and a number of collectible limited editions.
Each release will be artistically interpreted by Arsham, whose work spans art, architecture and performance.
The collaboration will focus in particular on The Balvenie’s Home Floor Maltings, which began operating around 1931 and remains largely unchanged today.
The Balvenie said the project will examine themes including time, longevity, materiality and craftsmanship, bringing together McKechnie’s whisky-making expertise with Arsham’s sculptural practice.
Arsham said: “Learning of The Balvenie’s time-honoured skills and its dedication to the most traditional methods of making whisky is inspiring.
“Our collaboration is rooted in a shared respect for both process and time.”
McKechnie added: “The Balvenie’s approach remains the same today as it always has been. It is a story of artistry, innovation and human endeavour.
“Our collaboration with Daniel Arsham has become a creative dialogue exploring the enduring character of our spirit, formed by our consistent approach across multiple generations.
“We look forward to unveiling our collaboration to the world, later this year.”
The Balvenie said further details of the limited-edition collection will be revealed later this year.
