Morrisons develops app for wholesalers to top up in store

Morrisons has expanded its wholesale offer with a new app that allows suppliers to pick up products in stores.

According to The Grocer, retailers in the supermarket giant’s supply network can pick the items they want, scan them in the app using their smartphone camera and checkout with a duty manager.

The wholesale and franchise partners will then be invoiced on their existing agreed terms, rather than purchasing the products at the in-store prices.

They will also be instantly sent as electronic delivery note by email, as well as to their store EPoS system.

As well as a focus on wholesale, Morrisons is looking to expand its convenience business, having revealed last week that it plans to open 400 more of its Daily convenience stores as part of its aim to take on Aldi and Lidl.

Having converted over 1,000 McColl’s stores following its acquisition in 2022, alongside the 600 pre-existing Morrisons Daily sites, the retailer wants to hit a total of 2,000 smaller stores in 2025.

In May, Morrisons acquired 38 stores, including six fuel forecourts, in the Channel Islands from long-term partner and convenience retailer SandpiperCI.

All of the convenience stores, which are located on the islands of Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney, are already supplied by the supermarket in some capacity and 19 operate under the Morrisons Daily fascia.
