Aldi turns to paper packaging for porridge oats

Aldi has made the switch to paper packaging on its Everyday Essentials Porridge Oats in all UK stores.

The latest move means all of the discounter’s porridge oat products are now free of plastic packaging, including its Everyday Essentials, Organic and Scottish Porridge Oats.

The latest packaging transformation on its Everyday Essentials Porridge Oats is expected to save around 57 tonnes of plastic annually.

It forms part of the supermarket’s target to reduce plastic packaging by 50% by 2025 and follows a switch to 100% recyclable cardboard packaging on all own-brand porridge pots last year.

Aldi UK plastics and packaging director Luke Emery said: “At Aldi, we are committed to reducing the use of plastic across our products and this latest change is another example of our ongoing progress.

“We know our customers want to make sustainable choices when they shop with us, which is why small steps like this can make a big difference.”

In recent months Aldi has transformed a flurry of new products to more sustainable packaging across its range, including recycled plastic for crisp packs, own-brand washing-up bottles and water bottles.
