Greencore and Samworth confirm all sandwiches back on shelves after E. coli crisis

News

Greencore and Samworth Brothers have confirmed all their sandwiches are back on supermarket shelves following the E. coli outbreak.

Both firms have stated that they are “supplying as normal” in light of last month’s food-to-go crisis, which saw sandwiches, wraps and salads containing lettuce recalled from shelves.

The Food Standards Authority (FSA) had released statements ordering the mass withdrawal of certain products – such as Chicken Fajita Triple Wrap, BLT Sandwich and Smoky Beans and Cheddar Cheese Wrap – as a “precautionary measure”.

Grocers affected included Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury’, Asda, Aldi, Amazon, WHSmith and Boots.

The FSA has since added that while it was a “complex investigation”, it was “confident” that lettuce was the source of the outbreak and that it E. coli scare was now under control.

The news comes amid the announcement that Tesco and Asda are being sued by customers who had fallen serious ill from eating the supermarket’s contaminated own-brand foods.

Among the claimants include a 11-year-old girl who spent three weeks on dialysis after eating a chicken salad sandwich infected by the bacteria.
