Co-op opens value retailer Boyes concession in newly refurbished store

Co-op is to introduce value retailer Boyes inside its newly refurbished Inverness store as it extends its partnership with the discounter.

The addition of the Boyes outlet will offer customers a selection of branded and discounted products, including clothing, homewares, electrical appliances, soft furnishings, and crafts for a value price.

It follows Co-op’s tie-up with value fashion retailer Bonmarché, which opened a 3,000 sq ft outlet in the grocer’s Louth store in Lincolnshire.

Boyes’ Inverness concession adds to the family-owned value retailer’s current network of over 70 stores throughout Scotland and the north of the UK.

It comes as Co-op’s 10,500 sq ft Telford Street store branch has undergone nine weeks of enhancement and improvements to transform the in-store experience.

The convenience retailer‘s Scottish store has seen changes to its range and layout, which has improved its features such as its over-counter range from Inverness-based bakery Harry Gow, Costa Coffee Express, new external self-service laundromat and a renewed focus on fresh and chilled produce.

Co-op’s soft plastic recycle unit initiative is also available in store, to allow shoppers to recycle ‘soft plastics’ including: crisp packets and bread bags and lids from ready meals.

Co-op director of format and innovation Marks Mathews said: “We are delighted to extend our partnership with Boyes, and to be part of Boyes expansion as they launch their first Scottish store.

“As we invest in transforming our Telford Street store we are committed to creating added services which provide a compelling customer offer in the community. The addition of a Boyes outlet will offer further value and choice for our member-owners and customers in Inverness.”

Boyes chairman Andrew Boyes added: “As a family business that has been trading in England since 1881 we are pleased and proud to be introducing our brand into Scotland with our new store in Inverness – Our Partner Agreement with Co-op and the major refurbishment of their Inverness store has provided an ideal opportunity for Boyes to start trading in Scotland and show the local people what Boyes means by value and variety!”
