Mondelēz has launched new packaging across its Cadbury Dairy Milk and Cadbury Mini Snowballs sharing bars to include 30% certified recycled plastic.
Rolled out across over 28 million of its sharing bars, the move comes as part of the food manufacturer‘s goal to reduce its use of virgin plastic material in its overall plastic packaging portfolio by 5% by 2025.
Supplied in partnership with packaging solution company Amcor, the new packaging is certified by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC).
“Until recently, flexible plastic packaging has been considered a single use material,” Mondelēz CEO, Dirk Van de Put said.
“The development of advanced recycling technology and our significant investment in this material means it’s now possible for Cadbury fans to enjoy their favourite sharing bars more sustainably here in the UK.”
“We’re committed to using more recycled plastic in our packaging in the coming years, as access and availability of advanced recycling technology increases.”
Mondelēz International UK managing director, Louise Stigant added: “We are very keen to reduce our use of virgin plastic across our full range and this innovation signals our demand for this material and much needed investment into the UK recycling infrastructure to produce it.”
This comes following the company’s move last year to use 75% recycled plastic across its UK Dairylea Lunchables packaging as it says it also looks to begin using certified plastic with recycled material for its Philadelphia tubs and lids from next year.
